Help for Fibromyalgia Sufferers

Being a fibromyalgia victim for several years, I have tried a lot of different medications and vitamins other supplements only to be disappointed with the results. I found that some things work for a while then, as my body gets used to them, they quit working.

The best treatment I have found so far is magnesium. I can assure you that this stuff really works. I have been taking 500 mg/day one dose in the morning and the other at night and the leg cramps have disappeared, my overall pain has lessened to the extent that I have not needed to take my morphine for months. I sleep better without the cramping and this reduces the number of flares.

Reducing the stress in your life is one of the best treatments available also. For me that would mean finding a new family and totally forgetting about the one I currently have!! Of course, this is not an option but learning to say no effectively has really made a difference. I no longer solve my children's problems or supply them with endless cash which never seems to flow back to me. I have a great hobby, art, which keeps my mind engaged and provides an outlet for stress.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I have never heard of fibromyalgia. What kind of an illness is it? If you needed to take morphine previously, it must be pretty bad.

Fibromyalgia (FM) is a disorder classified by the presence of chronic widespread pain and tactile allodynia.

[1] While the criteria for such an entity have not yet been thoroughly developed, the recognition that fibromyalgia involves more than just pain has led to the frequent use of the term "fibromyalgia syndrome". It is not contagious, and recent studies suggest that people with fibromyalgia may be genetically predisposed.

[2] The disorder is not directly life-threatening. The degree of symptoms may vary greatly from day to day with periods of flares (severe worsening of symptoms) or remission; however, the disorder is generally perceived as non-progressive.
